The 456th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 25.05.2023.

Russian offensive actions and impact on civilians

During the day, overnight, the Russian Federation launched another massive attack on the territory of Ukraine, using Iranian strike drones Shahed-136/131. Ukrainian troops destroyed all 36 of them.

Overall, during this day, the Russian army carried out 2 missile strikes with the S-300 air defense system on the civilian infrastructure of the town of Tsyrkuny in the Kharkiv region, resulting in damage to a private house. Additionally, it conducted 48 airstrikes and around 10 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launch systems. The probability of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

The Russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. In total, during the day, there were 17 clashes in the mentioned areas of the front.

Intensified frontline clashes and epicenters of conflict

  • The operational situation on the Volyn and Polissia directions remains unchanged, with no significant signs of Russian offensive formations detected.
  • On the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army continues to maintain military presence in the border areas with Ukraine. During the day, Russian troops conducted mortar and artillery shelling of the populated areas of Hay, Kamyanska Sloboda in the Chernihiv region; Khodyne, Volodymyrivka, Oleksandrivka, Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region, as well as Strylecha, Krasne, Cherkaski Tyshky, Lukyantsi, Neskuchne, Ternova, Vovchansk, Chuhunivka, and Khatne in the Kharkiv region.
  • On the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army continues its attempts to improve its tactical position. It carried out airstrikes in the vicinity of Chaykivka and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region. During the day, Russian soldiers also conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Masyutivka. Russian artillery and mortar shelling targeted the populated areas of Topoli, Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Masyutivka, Zapadne, Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region, as well as Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
  • On the Lyman direction, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the vicinity of Bilohorivka during the day. It carried out aerial strikes in the area of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Ivanivka in the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected Makiivka, Nevske, Dibrova, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Ivanivka, Torske, Verkhniokamianske, and Spirne in the Donetsk region.
  • On the Bakhmut direction, the Russian army continues its offensive actions in the area of Bakhmut. The shelling by Russian troops affected Vasiukivka, Pryvillia, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechyne, Kostiantynivka, Bila Hora, Pivnichne in the Donetsk region.
  • On the Avdiivka direction, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards Krasnohorivka. It carried out aerial strikes in the area of Avdiivka and conducted artillery shelling on Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Karlivka in the Donetsk region.
  • On the Marinka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled numerous Russian attacks in the area of the city of Marinka. The Russian army conducted aerial strikes in the vicinity of Marinka. At the same time, populated areas of Mariinka and Pobeda in the Donetsk region were subjected to Russian shelling.
  • On the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army shelled, among others, Vuhledar and Prechystivka.
  • On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army continues defensive actions. It carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Olhivske, Huliaipole, and Novodanilivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Novoberyslav in the Kherson region. Russian soldiers conducted shelling of populated areas such as Zelene Pole, Olhivske, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Huliaipilske, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Shcherbaky, Stepove, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region; Zolota Balka, Novooleksandrivka, Havrylivka, Vesele, Kozatske, Lvove, Vysuntsi, Bilozerka, Antonivka, Veletenske in Kherson region, and the city of Kherson.

Occupation of Dzharylhach

Russian troops have militarized the island of Dzharylhach, which was connected to the temporarily occupied mainland part of the Kherson region near the settlement of Lazurne on May 19. In particular, they deployed approximately 300 Russian servicemen and 15 foreign-made boats on the island, which were seized from the local population.

Ukrainian aviation and artillery response

The aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 4 strikes on Russian personnel and military equipment concentration areas during the day, while the missile forces and artillery units targeted 2 areas with Russian personnel, 1 ammunition depot, 1 radar station, and an artillery unit on firing positions.
