General Staff operational report July 27, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 519th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 27.07.2023.

Russian offensive actions and impact on civilians 

During the day, Russian troops launched a missile and aviation strike on Ukrainian territory, using 2 Kalibr missiles to target the port infrastructure of the Odesa region and 8 Shahed strike drones. As a result of the successful combat operation by the Air Force, all 8 Shahed drones were destroyed. Overall, the Russian army conducted 27 aerial attacks and carried out more than 30 shellings using rocket artillery on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian areas. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population, and the port infrastructure in southern Ukraine and residential buildings suffered damage and destruction.

The likelihood of further missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains very high. Within the day, there were 30 military clashes.

Intensified frontline clashes and epicenters of conflict

  • In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant signs of Russia’s offensive formations.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army conducted mortar and artillery shelling on more than 20 populated areas, including Stara Huta, Iskryskivshchyna, Volfyne, Bilovody, Pokrovka in the Sumy region, and Huryiv Kozachok, Udy, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Nesterne of the Kharkiv region.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army carried out an aviation strike in the area of Izium in the Kharkiv region. Artillery and mortar shelling impacted Figolivka, Dvorichna, Zapadne, and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the Lyman direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Nadiia in the Luhansk region. They also launched an aviation strike on Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. Artillery shelling affected populated areas such as Nevske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Spirne, Berestove, Torske, and Verkhniokamianske in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled Russian attacks south of Klishchiivka. The Russian army carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Kurdiumivka, Bila Hora, and New York in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Toretsk, and Zalizne in the Donetsk region, were affected by Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian military successfully repelled attacks by Russian troops under intense fire from Russian aviation and artillery in the area of Avdiivka. Artillery shelling affected over 15 populated areas, including Berdychivka, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, and Karlivka in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Marinka direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold back the Russian troops ‘ advance in the area of Marinka. The Russian army conducted shelling on more than 10 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka, Kurakhivka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops launched an aviation strike in the area of Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region. They also shelled populated areas such as Vodyane, Vuhledar, and Blahodatne.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army concentrates its main efforts on preventing further advancement of Ukrainian troops. Over 15 populated areas, including Levadne, Huliaypole, Charivne, Bilohirya, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and Zmiivka, Lvove, Tokarivka, Antonivka, and Dniprovske in the Kherson region, experienced artillery shelling.

Ukrainian countermeasures

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts, consolidating their positions on achieved boundaries, inflicting artillery fire on identified Russian targets, and implementing counter-battery measures.

The aviation of the Ukrainian army conducted 6 strikes during the day on the Russian personnel, weapons, and military equipment concentration areas, 1 strike on anti-aircraft missile systems, and 1 strike on Russia’s command point.

Rocket and artillery units targeted and hit 1 Russian command point, 1 personnel concentration area, 5 artillery units in firing positions, 1 fuel and lubricants depot, and 1 radio-electronic warfare station of the Russian army during the day.
