General Staff operational report July 11, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 503rd day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 11.07.2023.

Russian offensive actions and impact on civilians 

During the day, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones. A total of 28 kamikaze drones were deployed. As a result of successful combat operations, Ukrainian air defense system destroyed 26 attack UAVs and 2 reconnaissance drones of the Zala type. Additionally, the Russian army carried out 54 airstrikes and conducted 38 shelling attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian military and civilian areas. Unfortunately, apart from the destroyed infrastructure, innocent civilians were affected.

The likelihood of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

The Russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions, where heavy fighting is ongoing. There were 17 military clashes during the day.

Intensified frontline clashes and epicenters of conflict

  • The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remains unchanged. There are no significant signs of Russian offensive formations. Designated units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the border areas with Ukraine.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army maintains military presence. During the day, it conducted an airstrike in the area of Volfyne, Sumy Oblast, and carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 15 populated areas. These include Karpovychi in Chernihiv Oblast, Romashkove in Sumy Oblast, and Strilecha, Veterynarne, and Sotnytskyi Kozachok in Kharkiv Oblast.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops are holding the defense steadfastly. Russian artillery and mortar fire targeted Krasne Pershe, Kamianka, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Masiutivka, and Kyslivka in Kharkiv Oblast.
  • In the Lyman direction, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Vesele, Donetsk Oblast. Artillery shelling affected the settlements of Nevske, Bilohorivka in Luhansk Oblast, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, and Vesele in Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, under intense Russian aviation and artillery fire, Ukrainian military successfully repelled attacks in the area of Hryhorivka and east of Orikhovo-Vasylivka. Over 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Khromove, Chasiv Yar, and Ivanivske in Donetsk Oblast, suffered from Russian artillery shelling.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the areas of Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske. The Russian army conducted an airstrike in the area of the city of Avdiivka. At the same time, it carried out artillery shelling on more than 10 populated areas, including Avdiivka, Berdychiv, and Nevelske in Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Marinka direction, under Russian artillery fire, Ukrainian soldiers repelled all attacks in the areas of the populated settlements of Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, and Marinka. The Russian army conducted shelling on more than 10 populated areas, including Kostiantynivka, Marinka, and Yelizavetivka in Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Blahodatne. They carried out airstrikes near Odradne and Makarivka and shelled the populated areas of Vuhledar, Blahodatne, Velyka Novosilka, Vodyane, and Zolota Nyva in Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army concentrates its main efforts on preventing further advancement of Ukrainian soldiers. The Russian army conducted airstrikes in the area of the populated settlements of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and Zolota Balka in Kherson Oblast. It also carried out artillery shelling on more than 25 populated areas, including Huliaipole, Huliaipilske, Zaliznychne, Olihivske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Kozatske, Lvove, Inzhenerne, Tokarivka in Kherson Oblast, and the city of Kherson, as well as Dniprovka, Dmytrivka, and Ivanivka in Mykolaiv Oblast. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their achieved positions and conducting counter-battery measures.

Repressions against Ukrainian citizens are intensifying in the temporarily occupied territory of Henichesk in Kherson Oblast. According to available information, being “taken to the basement” has become much easier, as local collaborators, eager to gain favor with the occupying authorities, constantly make false accusations against citizens and carry out unjustified inspections. Additionally, Russian soldiers threaten the local population, stating that those without Russian Federation passports will be forcibly deported to Siberia and have their property confiscated.

Ukrainian countermeasures

During the day, the Air Force of Ukraine conducted 14 strikes on areas where Russian personnel, armaments, and military equipment are concentrated, and 3 strikes on Russian anti-aircraft missile complexes.

Units of the missile forces and artillery targeted 3 command posts, 10 artillery positions, 1 air defense system, and 1 Russian electronic warfare station during the day.
