Ukraine’s TV channel cameraman was killed when liberating Ukrainian territories

Oleksii Yurchenko, the Ukrainian “Priamyi” TV channel cameraman, has been killed when liberating Balakliia in the east of Ukraine from Russian invaders.

“Oleksii enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was killed in the Kharkiv region on September 8, 2022, during the liberation of Balakliia. From 2015 to 2016, he served in the military and participated in the battles for Marinka, and Pisky. He was awarded officer shoulder straps in August 2022. He commanded a platoon consisting of grenade launcher operator operators.”

As a cameraman, Yurchenko participated in the filming of the project “Tochka Nul [Point Zero – ed.]” regarding the anti-terrorist operation. The peculiarity of the series was that it was filmed directly by members of the ATO (Anti-terrorist Operation Zone).

During five months of full-scale war in Ukraine, 37 media workers were killed. Such data were provided by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine on July 25. Among them: 8 journalists performed their professional duties, 12 media workers became civilian victims of military aggression, and 17 more media representatives died while defending Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces.

Oleksiy Yurchenko became the 38th media person to die during half a year of Russia’s full-scale aggression in Ukraine.
