“According to the agreement, IFC will provide several Ukrainian cities with at least 25 million euros from the EU in the form of grants that will cover the cost of modernizing housing for thousands of people. The project will begin in Lviv, the largest city in Western Ukraine, which as of September sheltered about 245 thousand IDPs.”

The partners have agreed on a set of criteria that will be applied to the selection of buildings to ensure that housing for displaced people is safe and comfortable. In particular, high-quality connection to engineering systems and proximity to social infrastructure – public transport, schools and medical institutions are among them.

“While IFC continues to support its current clients – companies from the private sector, this new partnership will give us the opportunity to directly help the citizens of Ukraine affected by the Russian invasion.”

Uaposition memo: The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the world’s largest development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets.
