Russian troops set up positions around the perimeter of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

Oleksandr Starukh, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration said on November 25, 2022, that the Russian army used the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the south of Ukraine as a military base. Russian troops set up their positions around the perimeter of the plant, and mined the territory.

“They [Russian troops – ed.] set up positions around the perimeter of the city and around the perimeter of the nuclear plant, dug trenches, and laid mines. They started this work in the spring,” commented the head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration.

Oleksandr Starukh noted that Russian soldiers did not allow the 5th and 6th power units of the ZNPP to be launched and regularly shell the energy infrastructure. For example, the other day the lines were cut again by Russian troops and the generators were switched on.

“Fortunately, the power engineers worked quickly – in extremely difficult conditions, they restored the destroyed networks and brought the station back to life,” added Oleksandr Starukh.

In his opinion, since this scenario is repeated regularly, it is obvious that the nuclear threat will not disappear without the transfer of the ZNPP to the control of Ukraine and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
