Russian troops committed more than 4,400 crimes during the occupation of Kherson

The Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine noted on December 26, 2022, that during the period of Russia’s occupation of Kherson (a city in the south of Ukraine), the police documented more than 4,400 crimes against peace, human security and the international legal order, of which more than 3,600 criminal proceedings were opened for violations of the laws and customs of war.

“According to the available information, from March 1 to November 11, 2022, the investigative units of the Head Office of the National Police in the Kherson region documented more than 4,400 crimes against peace, human security, and law and order. Of these, more than 3.6 thousand criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war – ed.),” specified the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

The police also added that out of these more than 4.4 thousand cases under Article 110 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine), about 531 criminal proceedings have been opened: more than 240 criminal proceedings have been opened under Articles 111 (High treason), and 111-1 (Collaboration) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
