The discussion of Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance will begin in mid-October.

According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to NATO, the fact that Ukraine chose the option of bypassing the preparation stage and immediately applying for NATO membership, following the example of Sweden and Finland, was one of the scenarios that everyone was expecting.

“Ukraine’s application is a reaction to dynamic changes and events, and the partner countries are aware of this. This is a normal practice.”

Natalia Galibarenko also explained that according to the procedure, after the submission of Ukraine’s application, NATO members must hold a discussion and express their position. Now the discussion regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO has become formalized.

“One of the first steps will be a discussion at the level of ambassadors. The second stage will be a discussion between the ministers of defense, which is planned to be held on October 12-13 after the meeting within the framework of Ramstein.”
