Almost 8 million Ukrainians left abroad because of Russia’s war against Ukraine

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said on December 14, that 7.9 million Ukrainian citizens left abroad because of the war, and another 4.9 million became internally displaced persons.

“7 million 900 thousand people left the country, seeking shelter abroad – this is 20% of the actual population of Ukraine. 4 million 900 thousand citizens of Ukraine became internally displaced persons within our state, of which 30% are pensioners and persons with disability. In fact, every second family has one or more children,” explained Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

In addition, according to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, about 13 million citizens of Ukraine remain in areas of intense hostilities and in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Earlier, Dmytro Lubinets noted that more than 12,000 Ukrainian children had been deported to the territory of the Russian Federation, of which 8,600 had been forcibly deported since February 2022.
