More than 7 million Ukrainians fled their homeland and settled in neighboring countries since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

“The escalation of the international armed conflict in Ukraine has caused civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcing people to flee their homes seeking safety, protection and assistance. Millions of refugees from Ukraine have crossed borders into neighbouring countries, and many more have been forced to move inside the country. They are in need of protection and support.”

The UN Refugee Agency states that an inter-agency, regional refugee response has been launched to support the efforts of host countries. The UN, NGO, and the relevant partners from the Regional Refugee Response plan focus on supporting host countries to allow refugees and third-country nationals fleeing Ukraine safe access to their territory. This is consistent with international standards.
