This is Ukraine today – November 24: Lithuanian authorities have promised to start supplying weapons to Ukraine

Maidan Community Sector, Lviv: Dear friends!

November 23 – 39% of residents of Germany favor the recognition of Crimea as part of Russia. The poll was conducted by the sociological institute Infratest Dimap (reports Deutsche Welle referring to German TV channel ARD). 48 % of respondents do not recognize the annexation of Crimea.

November 23 – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance when it fulfills the criteria and if it decides to do so. On Sunday Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has stated that he does not see Ukraine becoming a NATO member state. Similarly to what happened in 2008, Germany is blocking the NATO’s membership of Ukraine and Georgia.

November 23 – Lithuanian authorities have promised to start supplying weapons to Ukraine in the near future, – stated the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a joint press-conference held as a result of negotiations with Lithuanian PresidentDalia Grybauskaite in Kiev.

November 23 – President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko: “We have developed a six year action plan in order to meet the criteria for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO. And only than Ukrainian people will be able to vote for or against this membership at an all-Ukrainian referendum”.

November 23 – US Ambassador to Russia John Tefft believes that Ukrainian authorities overall fulfill the conditions of Minsk Agreements regarding crisis resolution in eastern Ukraine whereas Russian authorities mostly don’t (interview with Russian “Kommersant” newspaper). Among Russia’s outstanding commitments Tefft named the fact that Russian weapons haven’t been removed from Ukraine and no effective control on the Russian-Ukrainian border has been established.

November 23 – On Monday, the terrorists have unsuccessfully attacked ATO forces 7 times, – reports ATO’s press-center. The total number of attacks since the announcement of a temporary ceasefire on September 5th is 3412 times, they calculated at ATO’s headquarters.

November 23 – fighters of “DPR” over the weekend bombed 20 civilian buildings in the city of Debeltsav – Head of the Donbas Region State Administration, Oleksandr Kikhtenko. The Head of the Region emphasized that the fighters regularly carry on shootings of Debeltsev from Russian arms, that are brought into Ukraine also by the “so-called” humanitarian convoys. “Whenever there arrives in Ukraine the next “humanitarian convoy” – immediately the shootings of not only our army positions, but also of the residential quarters, increase,” states Kikhtenko. He also noted that the Russian propaganda and its Donetsk satellites in the guise of local so-called media, after each one of such attacks, deceive the people by reporting that the Ukrainian Army is doing this. “We have irrefutable proof that the shootings of the residential quarters are being done by fighters of “DPR”, but unfortunately, we cannot publicize these facts among people living in the occupied territory – they are in the Russian informational vacuum and have no free access to, especially, Ukrainian TV channels,” stated the Governor.
