This is Ukraine today – September 22

Maidan Community Sector, Lviv: Dear friends!

War, not the expected peace arrived at the doorstep of Great Britain and France when they gave up Czechoslovakia to Hitler in 1938. War is happening right here at home and not in faraway Europe – the United States were harshly reminded about this at Pearl Harbor in 1942. War descended on Ukraine and thus is now much closer to Paris and Berlin, because Europe and the US haven’t supported Georgia in 2008. War showed up in the homes of Dutch, British, French, German, Australian families because Europe and the US weren’t courageous enough to lend a helping hand to Ukraine in 2014. It is impossible to run away from war and overwhelming aggression, it is impossible to buy yourself off. The war will catch up with you if you don’t stand up to it with utmost determination.

September 22 – Security zone in eastern Ukraine will be divided into five sections and approximately 350 OSCE representatives will be monitoring these sections – Russia’s Permanent OSCE Representative Andrei Kelin.

A self-proclaimed “Prime Minister” of Crimea Sergei Aksenov has said that he doesn’t recognize the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people as an institution. He also said that the authorities will harshly pursue all those opposing Crimea’s annexation by Russia and challenging Russia’s state leadership.

September 22 – France has emphasized that “under current circumstances” supplying helicopter carriers “Mistral” to Russia is impossible, – said France Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexandre Georgini.

September 22 – To survive upcoming winter, Ukraine needs another 3 billion cubic meters of gas. In order not to disrupt the “heating season”, it will offset the deficit by purchasing fuel oil, – said the Minister for Regional Development Volodymyr Groysman. Today, energy-related issues are more important for Ukraine then military issues. Especially in those regions where heating system has been destroyed – in some cities of eastern Ukraine it has been ruined completely.

September 22 – According to preliminary estimates, direct economic losses of Ukraine incurred as a result of the armed conflict in the east of the country amounted to over 30 billion UAH (over 2 billion USD) – “Ukrinform”.
