This is Ukraine today – August 25

Maidan Community Sector, Lviv: Dear friends!

War, not the expected peace arrived at the doorstep of Great Britain and France when they gave up Czechoslovakia to Hitler in 1938. War is happening right here at home and not in faraway Europe – the United States were harshly reminded about this at Pearl Harbor in 1942. War descended on Ukraine and thus is now much closer to Paris and Berlin, because Europe and the US haven’t supported Georgia in 2008. War showed up in the homes of Dutch, British, French, German, Australian families because Europe and the US weren’t courageous enough to lend a helping hand to Ukraine in 2014. It is impossible to run away from war and overwhelming aggression, it is impossible to buy yourself off. The war will catch up with you if you don’t stand up to it with utmost determination.

August 25 – Russia has informed Ukraine about the intention to put together another “humanitarian convoy”, – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The terrorists and weapons they were managed to fit in the previous convoy wasn’t enough? What now – they plan to import military divisions?

August 25 – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that parading Ukrainian prisoners of war in the city of Donetsk on Sunday was not demeaning – “Concerning the degrading treatment of war prisoners, let the lawyers handle it”, – Lavrov said. Earlier, Deputy Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division of “Human Rights Watch” Rachel Denber “twitted” that the “parade” of hostages held in Donetsk is a violation of international convention. “Parading Ukrainian soldiers violates Geneva Convention ban on humiliation, degrading treatment, outrages to dignity”, – she wrote. The third article of Geneva Convention, which applies to armed conflicts that are not international in character, a ban is provided on “assault on human dignity, in particular humiliating treatment” and degrading man. “This parade is a clear violation of the absolute prohibition and can be regarded as war crime”, – said the representative of “Human Rights Watch” Ole Solvang.
