The 556th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 02.09.2023.

Russia’s attacks on the civilian infrastructure in Ukraine

During the day, the Russian army carried out 2 missile and 34 aviation strikes, conducted 42 artillery attacks using rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian military and populated areas. Unfortunately, due to the Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.

The likelihood of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high. Over the course of the day, more than 15 clashes took place.

  • In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army conducted an aviation strike in the area of Chuhunivka in the Kharkiv region. It carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 20 populated areas, including Khrinivka, Karpovychi, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region, Ukrainske, Shalyhine, Kostiantynivka, Veselivka, Riasne, Hrabovske in the Sumy region, as well as Kozacha Lopan, Ohirtseve, Vovchanski Khutory, Varvarivka, Potekhonove in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the direction of Kupiansk, Russian shelling affected Kamianka and Berestove in the Kharkiv region.
  • In the direction of Lyman, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Novoehorivka in the Luhansk region. It carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Cherneschyne in the Kharkiv region, Novoehorivka, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. Russian artillery shelling impacted over 10 populated areas, including Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Yampolivka, Dronivka, Verkhniokamianske, Vyiivka, Vesele, and Pryvillya in the Donetsk region.
  • In the direction of Bakhmut, Russian artillery shelling affected more than 15 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Hryhorivka, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Predtechine, and Kurdiumivka in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions east of Severne in the Donetsk region. They shelled populated areas such as Pervomaiske, Karlivka, Avdiivka, Stepove, and Novokalynove in the Donetsk region using artillery and mortars.
  • In the direction of Marinka, the Russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions south of Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Populated areas like Oleksandriopil, Heorhiivka, Pobeda, Kostiantynivka, and Yelyzavetivka in the Donetsk region experienced artillery shelling.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian soldiers carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Vuhledar and Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Russian artillery shelling targeted more than 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, Staromykhailivka, Novosilka, and Zelene Pole in the Donetsk region.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian army conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Artillery shelling affected over 15 populated areas, including Levadne, Malynivka, Huliaypole, Novodanylivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Pyatyhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
  • In the direction of Kherson, over 10 populated areas, including Mykhailivka, Novoberyslav, Mykolaivka, Tiahinka, Kherson, and Pervomaiske in the Kherson region, experienced Russian shelling.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions at achieved frontlines, and conducting counter-battery measures.

The Armed Forces’ aviation carried out 9 strikes during the day on areas of personnel, armaments, and military equipment concentration, as well as 2 strikes on Russian anti-aircraft missile complexes.

Units of the missile forces and artillery targeted 5 areas of personnel, armaments, and military equipment concentration, neutralizing 12 artillery units in firing positions, 2 ammunition depots, 2 command points, and 1 Russian anti-aircraft missile complex throughout the day.
