General Staff operational report May 13, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 444th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 13.05.2023.

Today, during the night, the Russian Federation launched another massive attack on Ukrainian territory, using Iranian strike UAVs “Shahed-136/131.” According to updated information, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 18 out of 22 drones.

Overall, throughout the day, the Russian army carried out a missile strike with an S-300 missile on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Mykolaiv, resulting in injuries among civilians and damage to a high-rise building and other civilian infrastructure. Additionally, Russian troops conducted 66 airstrikes and around 70 shelling attacks with rocket artillery systems. Populated areas have been affected as well. In particular, as a result of the shelling of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, there are 2 civilian fatalities and 11 injuries, including children. A private house was destroyed, and 4 high-rise buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

The probability of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high, as the Russian army continues to employ tactics of terror.

The Russian army  continues to concentrate its main efforts in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka directions. In total, there were about 40 combat clashes in these designated areas during the day, with Bakhmut and Mariinka remaining at the forefront of the fighting.

  • On the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, and there are no signs of Russian forming offensive groupings.
  • On the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army continues to maintain a military presence in the border areas with Ukraine. It carried out airstrikes on the areas of the populated settlements of Mokhy, Prohres, Semenivka in the Chernihiv Oblast, and Budarky in the Kharkiv Oblast. Russian soldiers also conducted mortar and artillery shelling on the populated settlements of Klyusi, Yeline, Zarichchia, Mokhy, Medvedivka in the Chernihiv Oblast, and Stara Huta, Demianivka, Bachivsk, Vilna Sloboda, Bobylivka in the Sumy Oblast, as well as Kozacha Lopan, Ohirtseve, Hatyshche, Bochkove, Nesterne, and Budarky in the Kharkiv Oblast.
  • On the Kupiansk direction, Russian military carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Novoselivske and the eastern outskirts of Stelmakhivka. It conducted airstrikes on the areas of the populated settlements of Vilshana and Kotliarivka. Novomykhailivka, Dvorichna, and Tabaiivka in the Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk Oblast, were subjected to Russian artillery and mortar shelling.
  • On the Lyman direction, Russian troops did not conduct any offensive actions during the day. They carried out an airstrike on the areas of the populated settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk Oblast and Verkhniokamianske and Spirne in the Donetsk Oblast. The populated settlements located near the line of contact, namely Makiivka in the Luhansk Oblast, Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Berestove in Donetsk Oblast, were subjected to artillery shelling.
  • On the Bakhmut direction, the Russian army continues to conduct offensive actions. Heavy fighting for the city of Bakhmut is ongoing. Moreover, during the day, Russian military carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards the populated settlements of Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, and Bila Hora. Alongside positional defense, Ukrainian troops are also engaged in active actions, including offensive operations. Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Druzhba, Pivnichne, Pivdenne, and Toretsk in the Donetsk Oblast were affected by Russian  shelling.
  • On the Avdiivka direction, Russian soldiers conducted an airstrike in the area of the populated settlement of Avdiivka. They also shelled Pervomaiske and Karlivka in the Donetsk Oblast with artillery.
  • On the Mariinka direction, Ukrainian military repelled numerous enemy attacks in the area of the city of Mariinka. At the same time, Georgiivka and Pobeda in the Donetsk Oblast were subjected to Russian shelling.
  • On the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops did not conduct any offensive actions during the day. They carried out an airstrike in the area of the populated settlement of Prechystivka. They also shelled the populated settlements of Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, and Shakhtarske.
  • On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army continues defensive actions. It conducted airstrikes in the areas of the populated settlements of Vremivka in the Donetsk Oblast, Burlatske, Zatyshshya, Huliaypole, Mali Shcherbaky in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, as well as Berislav and Kozatske in the Kherson Oblast. Additionally, Russian troops shelled the populated settlements located near the line of contact, including Malynivka, Huliaypole, Bilohirya, Novodanilivka, Novoandrivka, Novopavlivka, Mali Shcherbaky, and Kamianske in Zaporizhia Oblast; Zolota Balka, Mykhailivka, Antonivka, Chornobaivka in Kherson Oblast, and the city of Kherson.

Russian forces continue to exert pressure on Ukrainian citizens and violate human rights in the temporarily occupied territories. In particular, in Mariupol, approximately 50 representatives of the investigative committee of the Russian Federation have been involved in degrading interrogations conducted at the local police department. These interrogations are accompanied by abuse and mistreatment of the civilian population.

At the same time, Russian troops continue to utilize the infrastructure of the temporarily occupied settlements to provide medical assistance to their injured servicemen. Recently, a field hospital was established in the village of Tavriiske, the Kherson Oblast, on the premises of a kindergarten. It was noted that three military trucks arrived with injured occupiers.

The Aviation Forces of the Defense Army conducted eight strikes during the day on the areas where Russian personnel and military equipment are concentrated, as well as a strike on Russian air defense missile complex. Additionally, Ukrainian military shot down two Russian reconnaissance UAVs of the “Orlan-10” type.

Ukrainian units of Missile Forces and Artillery targeted four areas where Russian forces were concentrated, two ammunition depots, and two Russian radio electronic warfare stations.
