General Staff operational report July 25, 2023 on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The 517th day of the Russia-Ukraine War: official operational information by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 25.07.2023.

Russian offensive actions and impact on civilians 

During the day, the Russian army conducted 1 missile and 49 aviation strikes and carried out more than 40 bombardments using rocket artillery on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there were casualties among the civilian population, and residential buildings and other infrastructure were damaged.

The likelihood of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high. Approximately 20 military clashes took place during the day.

Intensified frontline clashes and epicenters of conflict

  • In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
  • In the Siversk and Slobozhansk directions, the Russian army maintains its military presence. It conducted an aviation strike in the area of Veterynarne in Kharkiv Oblast and launched mortar and artillery shelling on more than 20 populated areas, including Semenivka in Chernihiv Oblast; Vilna Sloboda, Svarkove, Stepne, Basivka, Mohrytsia, Pokrovka, and Oleksandrivka in Sumy Oblast, as well as Huriiv Kozachok, Hraniv, Vovchansk, Bochkove, and Budarky in Kharkiv Oblast.
  • In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops are holding their defense steadfastly. The Russian army conducted an aviation strike in the area of Novoselivka, Luhansk Oblast. Russian artillery and mortar shelling targeted Krasne Pershe, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, and Berestove in Kharkiv Oblast.
  • In the Lyman direction, Russian attempts at advancement were unsuccessful in the area south of Dibrova, Luhansk Oblast. Russian troops carried out an aviation strike in the area of Spirne, Donetsk Oblast. Artillery shelling was reported in the populated areas of Nevske, Luhansk Oblast, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka, Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled Russian attacks in the areas east of Stupochky and near Diliivka, Donetsk Oblast. The Russian army conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Klishchiivka and Diliivka. More than 10 populated areas were affected by Russian artillery shelling, including Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and Pivnichne, Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Avdiivka direction, under intense Russian aviation and artillery fire, Ukrainian military successfully repelled Russian troops’ attacks in the area of Avdiivka. At the same time, the Russian army conducted artillery shelling on more than 10 populated areas, including Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Lastochkyne, Vodiane, and Karlivka, Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Marinka direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to contain the Russian troops’ advancement in the area of Marinka. Artillery shelling was experienced in the populated areas of Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, and Heorhiivka, Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army carried out an aviation strike in the area of Makarivka and conducted shelling on more than 10 populated areas, including Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, and Velyka Novosilka, Donetsk Oblast.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army is concentrating its main efforts on preventing further advancement of Ukrainian military. Aviation strikes were reported in the areas of Levadne and Mala Tokmachka, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Over 20 populated areas, including Novoandrivka, Levadne, Malynivka, Huliaypole, Zaliznychne, Stepove, Lobkove, and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Dudchany, Beryslav, Kozatske, Molodizhne, Antonivka, Komyshany, Kizomys, and Stanislav in Kherson Oblast, experienced artillery shelling. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions at achieved frontlines.

Ukrainian countermeasures

During the day, the Armed Forces’ aviation carried out 8 strikes on Russia’s personnel, equipment, and military technology concentration areas.

Additionally, Ukrainian military destroyed Russian Ka-52 helicopter, 5 Shahed-136 type attack UAVs, and 2 tactical-level reconnaissance UAVs.

The missile and artillery units hit the concentration areas of Russian personnel, equipment, and military technology, destroying 7 artillery systems in firing positions, 2 radio-electronic warfare stations, and 2 anti-aircraft missile complexes.
