Response of international community to the events in Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Great Britain’s National Security Adviser Kim Darroch during the meeting with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated that the Prime Minister of Great Britain expressed support to the peace initiatives of the President of Ukraine and his Peace plan.  The parties also discussed further Ukrainian-British steps aimed at peaceful regulation in Donbas as well as fulfillment of agreements betweenthe President of Ukraineand the Prime Minister of Great Britain reached during NATO summit in Newport.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Grzegorz Schetyna stated that Poland was going to insist on intensifying sanctions against the Russian Federation provided the latter would not change its policy.“It will bring us closer to better settlement of the situation”,– said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

The vice president of the European Parliamentary Assembly Richard Charnetsky stated that he promoted extensive support to Ukraine, including military one.

«I don’t exclude any form of support. It is in Europe’s interests not to leave Ukraine facing Russia tete-a-tete», – he emphasized.

«Europe is learning and making progress from this viewpoint. Whereas it vaguely reacted during Georgian conflict, its position is more determined», – emphasized Richard Charnetsky.

He expressed his belief that in conditions of persistent economic pressure upon Kremlin the EU would make Russia “reload”.

The countries posed under direct threat of Russian propaganda are taking active measures pertaining to their informational security.

For instance, coordinating council of TV and radio broadcasting of Moldova made a decision on imposing a fine on all TV channels broadcasting Russian news and “violating the principle of the freedom of speech”.

In particular Romanian experts determined that while covering the developments in the East of Ukraine news block of Russian channels discredit Ukraine and cast it in a negative light, and the majority of takes is anti-Ukrainian and reflects only separatists’ point of view. Besides, according to the experts’ opinion, Russian channels are using disinformation and manipulation, spreading unconfirmed rumours, prejudicing splicing, libeling and offending the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spreading hatred to European and Euro-Atlantic values while covering events in South-East Ukraine. It is worth mentioning that sanctions were applied against 4 Romanian channels rebroadcasting Russian channels.

Previously sanctions were applied by Lithuania imposing temporary prohibition for “RTR” channel rebroadcasting, qualifying some materials about Russian-Ukrainian conflict as those that contain signs of military propaganda.

We expect the Report of UN Higher Commissioner for Human Rights Administration to be made public today. According to our sources, the report presentation is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

At the same time Russian state mass media have already published abstracts from the report, using manipulative technologies and distorting facts. We are calling upon representatives of Ukrainian and international mass-media to analyze such documents independently and exclusively on the basis of the text of complete official report.
