Operational report August 31, 2022 by the General Staff of AFU on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The courageous resistance of the Ukrainian people to a Russian military invasion is still going strong on the one hundred eighty-ninth 189th day.

The situation is unaltered in the directions of Volyn, Polissya, and Siverskyi. In the vicinity of the Ukrainian towns of Hai and Bleshnia in the Chernihiv oblast and Dmytrivka and Kindrativka in the Sumy oblast, the Russian army fired mortar and artillery shells. The Russian Air Force’s border oblasts are still being illegally surveyed from the air.

In the direction of Kharkiv, Russian troops shelled communities in the Duvanka, Sosnivka, Ruska Lozova, Cherkaski Tyshky, Tsyrkuny, Staryi Saltiv, Shestakove, Nortsivka, and Husarivka districts using tanks, combat vehicles, barrel and jet fire. Russia provides the intensive illegal use of UAV reconnaissance. It conducted airstrikes in the vicinity of Ruski Tyshky.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces’ positions in the communities of Dolyna, Bohorodychne, and Dibrivne were fired by Russian invaders from Slovyansk’s direction. There was a Russian airstrike near Virnopillia. The Russian army is working to strengthen its forces’ logistical support.

Near Vesele, Bohorodychne, Zakitne, Hryhorivka, and Spirne, Russian soldiers opened fire with barrel and jet artillery in the direction of Kramatorsk. They conducted airstrikes near the communities of Spirne and Ivano-Daryivka.

The Russian occupants opened fire on military and civilian infrastructure sites in the Bakhmut, Soledar, and Zaytseve districts, moving in the direction of Bakhmut.

Attempts by the Russian army to attack the communities of Vesela Dolyna, Bakhmut, Zaytseve, and Mayorsk were defeated by Ukrainian military troops.

The Russian Federation fired from tanks, barrel artillery, and jet artillery in the direction of Avdiyivka, Opytne, Umanske, Pervomayske, and Staromyhaylivka. It attempted a failed attack on the communities of Avdiyivka, Pervomayske, Krasnohorivka, and Mariyinka, incurred casualties, and then withdrew.

Ukrainian soldiers’ positions in the communities of Novomyhaylivka, Prechystivka, and Velyka Novosilka were shelled in the Novopavlivske direction. The Russian army made attempts to strengthen its tactical position in the Pobyeda region but failed.

Russian soldiers launched attacks on the communities of Burlatske, Kamianske, Novopil, Hulyaipole, Orihiv, Zaliznychne, Vremivka, Novoivanivka, and Mala Tokmachka in the direction of Zaporizhzhia. In order to launch attacks near Chervone, Dorozhnyanka, and Novosilka, the enemy deployed aviation.

The Russian army is focusing its major efforts on retaining the seized locations in the direction of South Buh. It takes action to make up for losses and restore the troop group’s logistical support. In the vicinity of the communities of Oleksandrivka, Lupareve, Chervonyi Yar, Kyselivka, Kvitneve, Velyke Artakove, Shevchenkove, Mykolayiv, Bila Krynytsia, Posad-Pokrovske, Olhyne, Dobryanka, and Topolyne, it fired shells from tanks, barrel artillery, and rocket artillery. Airstrikes were carried out in Andriyivka, Olhyne, and Plotnytske settlement areas. The illegal use of UAVs for aerial surveillance in Ukraine is widespread by Russia.

The Russian Federation’s naval group in the Black and Azov Seas concentrates its major efforts on upholding a threatening operational regime and impeding civilian shipping in the northern Black Sea.
