“We have representatives of 55 countries from all continents, even as far away as Brazil, South Korea, Australia.”

He says that most of the legion are Americans and British, followed by Poles and Canadians, and then – representatives of other countries. In particular, a large number – from the Baltic countries and the Nordic countries, including Finland.

Magru declined to name the total number of legionnaires, citing the confidentiality of information.

Regarding funding, Damien Magru noted that the International Legion is part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is funded from the defense budget.

“This applies to all living expenses, salaries of soldiers, weapons and ammunition. We have additional charitable funds from private donors, especially Western ones. The funds raised on various platforms we spend exclusively on equipment for our soldiers, which is not included in the standard military package, issued to the Armed Forces, and is needed on the battlefield. It is not funded through state channels of Ukraine.”
