US will provide Ukraine with nearly $2B aid package, which includes Patriot air defense systems

The White House confirmed on December 20, 2022, that A new security aid package from the US for Ukraine worth almost two billion dollars would include Patriot air defense systems.

“In fact, tomorrow [on December 21, 2022 – ed.], President Biden will announce a significant new package of nearly $2 billion of security assistance for Ukraine. It will contain a very important new capability: a Patriot missile battery, which will be a critical asset to defend the Ukrainian people against Russia’s barbaric attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure,” noted the senior White House employee.

According to the White House employee, the US will teach the Ukrainian military how to operate a battery of Patriot missiles in a third country.

 “This will take some time, but Ukrainian troops will take that training back to their country to operate this battery. And we will continue to prioritize other forms of air defense support as well, including NASAMS, HAWKs, Stingers, and counter-UAV equipment,” added the senior White House employee.

In addition, the White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the United States, the head of the White House, Joe Biden, would announce a significant new package of security assistance to Ukraine to help the country defend itself against Russian aggression.
