It is a very important weapon that Ukrainian leaders have asked for earlier in an attempt to stem Russia’s offensive in the Donbas.

The High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) will provide Ukrainian troops with greater precision when striking against Russian advances. The officials stressed that these newer systems will not be used to strike at targets within Russia.

Officials also said they would not be giving Ukraine long-range weapons, and added that Ukraine had assured the US that it would not fire the medium-range rockets into Russian territory.

According to two representatives of the US presidential administration, the decision to provide Ukraine with the above weapons was discussed on the condition of anonymity.
