UNHCR office opens in Mariupol

A representative office of the UN mission opened in Mariupol, Donetsk region, deputy chairman of Donetsk Regional State Administration Ivan Shevliak told reporters on Wednesday.
“It was a logical continuation of a memorandum of cooperation signed between Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. In furtherance of the memorandum the necessary coordination of all stakeholders (including government) responsible for the settlement of social problems of displaced persons will be provided,” Shevliak said.
According to him, a team is being formed in Mariupol, in particular, for sending humanitarian aid to Pershotravnevy and Novoazovsk districts where there is the largest number of internally displaced persons. There the office will also deal with the problems associated with the provision of targeted assistance to the most needy. And then – the organized return of displaced persons to their homes.
The UN mission office is already working in Kharkiv. It is also planned to open such offices in Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Kherson and other cities of Ukraine.
