Ukrainians should shrink gas consumption at least threefold – Ukraine PM

Ukraine in 2017 plans to increase own gas production by 500 million cubic meters and by 2020 to cover all of its fuel needs, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman reported via Twitter.

”This year we have increased our own [gas] production by 50 million cubic meters. Next year we will increase it by 500 million cubic meters,” wrote Groysman. ”By 2020, I believe we will be able to cover nearly all our gas needs.”

At this, Groysman said that, in addition to gas production growth, the government will fully support energy efficiency programs, allowing for the rational use of resources.

According to the head of government, citizens of Ukraine should reduce household gas consumption at least threefold. The application of technology for the construction of energy efficient homes will help to achieve the stated goal, the prime minister said.

Groysman also noted that for 2017 the government lays down some UAH 800 million for energy efficiency.

As UNIAN reported earlier, according to government estimates, Ukraine is able by 2020 to have boosted its own gas production by 7 billion cubic meters – up to 27 bcm, which is sufficient to ensure the country`s needs.

Ukraine`s largest gas producer, Ukrgazvydobuvannia, over the next four years intends to invest about UAH 110 billion in measures to increase natural gas production.
