Ukrainian sugar refineries already produce 18% of annual target

Ukrainian sugar refineries have produced 337,100 tonnes of sugar since the beginning of the current sugar refining season, which is about 18% of the annual target set by the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry for the 2016-2017 marketing year (MY), which began on September 1, 2016, according to the Ukrtsukor sugar producers` association.

”Since the beginning of the sugar refining season, sugar refineries have processed 2.86 million tonnes of sugar beets and produced 337,100 tonnes of sugar,” the association said.

There were 32 operating sugar refineries as of September 29, it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the ministry projects that the sugar market will be stable in the 2016-2017 MY, when Ukrainian sugar refineries plan to produce up to 1.85 million tonnes of sugar.

With due regard to ending stocks, the ministry projects that the sugar supply on the market will exceed 2 million tonnes while demand is expected to be 1.6 million tonnes of sugar.

Forty-four refineries received sugar production quotas in Ukraine in the 2016-2017 MY, against 37 in the previous period.
