Ukrainian President met with President of the European Council in Kyiv

The Office of the President of Ukraine told details about the meeting of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Charles Michel in Kyiv on January 19, 2023.

Welcoming the President of the European Council in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Charles Michel is a true friend of Ukraine, and negotiations were meaningful and important.

“The scale of cooperation is a new story for Ukraine and the EU,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the results of the meeting with Charles Michel.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the President of the European Council about the situation on the battlefield, the front line, and about what the Russian next actions might be.

In addition to defense issues, during the meeting, the parties discussed the further strengthening of sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, steps to implement the Ukrainian peace formula, where the European Union can become one of the powerful leaders, and help expand the circle of partners, as well as bilateral interaction with the EU and the process of European integration of Ukraine, which is a priority for every citizen of Ukraine.

“The time has come for sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry, against all its branches, organizations, all entities that work for the Russian missile program. Also, new steps in the energy sector, including the embargo on Russian energy carriers,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.

The two leaders also discussed specific measures that could ensure the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula.

VolodymyrZelenskyy also thanked Charles Michel for his high assessment of Ukraine’s implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations for membership in the European Union. According to the President of Ukraine, the next step may be an interim positive assessment by the European Union of the efforts of the Ukrainian state.
