Ukrainian Parliament adopted all laws necessary for the start of negotiations on accession to the EU

The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratyuk noted on December 13, 2022, that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian Parliament) fulfilled its obligations and promise to adopt European integration laws by the end of the year, which contained in the seven main recommendations of the European Commission to Ukraine, as a candidate country for joining the EU.

“Today we adopted three key European integration laws: on the media, a transparent procedure for appointing judges of the Constitutional Court, and on national minorities (communities). Thus we opened the way to the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s full accession to the European Union, which can begin as early as the new year of 2023,” emphasized the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Olena Kondratyuk noted that a compromise was reached in the session hall between various factions and deputy groups on almost all key remarks and controversial points.

“At the same time, we are aware that the adopted media law is not constant, it will still change. Its implementation will require substantive monitoring by both media circles in Ukraine and the European Commission for practical compliance with European values of freedom of speech,” said the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The European Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership on June 23, 2022.
