Ukrainian air defense shot down 18 Russian missiles and a drone in the south

Natalia Humeniuk, the head of the joint press center of the Operational Command Pivden (South) informed on March 9, 2023, that this night, the Air Force of Ukraine destroyed 19 air targets: 18 Russian missiles and one unmanned aerial vehicle in the south of Ukraine.

“In our zone [the south of Ukraine – ed.], hits to energy infrastructure facilities were recorded, they are not critical, but energy workers are already working on recovery. The anti-aircraft defense worked very well. 19 targets were shot down, 18 missiles and one drone,” explained the head of the joint press center of the Operational Command Pivden.

Natalia Humeniuk also said that the Russian army carried out missile attack in two waves and tried to distract the Ukrainian air defense system. Russian troops launched Kh-22, Kh-101, Kh-59 and Kalibr missiles at critical infrastructure facilities of Ukraine.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian military made 81 launches of different missiles.

“The Air Force in cooperation with units of other components of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 34 cruise missiles out of 48 Kh-101/Kh-555, Kalibr cruise missiles, as well as 4 Shahed-136/131 UAVs [out of 8 – ed.]. As a result of organized countermeasures, 8 Kh-31P and Kh-59 guided missiles failed to reach their targets,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces summarized.
