Ukraine to appeal to international courts to seek release of its servicemen in Russia

Ukrainian Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko has said he does not rule out an appeal to international courts regarding the release of Ukrainian servicemen who are held hostage in Russia.
He told this to reporters on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent said.
He said that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was currently doing everything possible through diplomatic channels for the release and return of the Ukrainian military.
However, the minister said if diplomacy does not work, legal mechanisms will be used.
“This is an appeal to UN committees with statements that one country holds hostage Ukrainians. There may also be an appeal to the courts, including the ECHR and the UN International Court [of Justice],” Petrenko said.
However, he said, an appeal to international courts is seen as a last resort. “Now we hope for diplomatic actions,” the minister said.
