Ukraine sees decline in gas, crude oil production since start of year

Ukraine saw a 0.3% reduction in the production of natural gas in January-July 2016 year-on-year to 11.4 billion cubic meters, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported.

The report does not include information from Russian-annexed Crimea and occupied areas in Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

Gas production in July 2016 alone rose by 2.6% compared with June 2016 to 1.6 billion cubic meters. Gas production in July 2016 year-on-year grew by 1.4%.

Natural gas production in Ukraine in 2015 fell by 3.1% compared with the previous year to 19.2 billion cubic meters. In 2014, Ukraine produced 19.7 billion cubic meters, while gas output in 2013 was 20.4 billion cubic meters.

Ukraine`s crude oil production in the first seven months of 2016 also witnessed a decline, falling by 11.9% to 958,000 tonnes, the State Statistics Service said.

Crude oil production in July 2016 was 136,000 tonnes, up 4.2% from June 2016, but down 13.5% in comparison with July 2015.

In 2015, Ukraine produced 1.801 million tonnes of crude oil, down 11.8% from 2014. The country`s largest crude oil producers are subsidiaries of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine – Ukrgazvydobuvannia and Ukrnafta. Naftogaz has a controlling stake in the latter.
