Ukraine reports top volume of freight traffic to China

China currently ranks first in terms of export cargo transportation from Ukraine, while in 2015, the volume of cargo traffic between the two countries increased by 11% – to 25.5 million tonnes, according to the report on the revision of the country`s trade policy in the World Trade Organization, published on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.

”In 2015, the volume of freight traffic between Ukraine and China amounted to 25.48 million tonnes, which is 11% more than in 2014, and today, China ranks first in terms of export cargo traffic from Ukraine,” the report reads.

In addition, the report notes that the launch of containerized cargo in the framework of the Silk Road Chinese transit project will increase significantly the volume of exports from Ukraine to Asia.

According to the executive director of the Chinese trade association, Ruslan Osipenko, Ukraine can take advantage of the financing of the Chinese Silk Road Fund, as well as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to increase exports through the implementation of joint infrastructure projects.

Earlier, Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Hennadiy Zubko noted that Ukraine and China in the framework of the work of the intergovernmental commission would develop a roadmap for the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, revealing the transit potential of Ukraine.

In January-February 2016, Russia`s share in Ukrainian exports was 7.9%, and China had 6.9%.
At the end of 2015, exports to Russia amounted to 12.7% of Ukraine`s total exports, while those to China  were at 6.3%.
