Ukraine, Poland may build helicopters together

Talks are being held with Ukrainian manufacturers to produce a helicopter in cooperation with Poland, Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz has said, according to Radio Poland.

In an interview for the Trwam TV station the minister explained that the plan is an attempt to build a helicopter, drawing on the experience of the CEE region countries, Radio Poland reports.

”There is no reason why Poland and Ukraine would not produce such a Central European helicopter,” Macierewicz said.

The minister also pointed to the Ukrainian Motor Sich company, which produces engines for airplanes and helicopters, and the possibility to build other parts of the aircraft in Poland.

Macierewicz also stressed that the project is unrelated to a failed deal to buy choppers from France-based Airbus Helicopters, a decision by Poland which has made international headlines.
