Ukraine not to abandon nuclear energy – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that neither today nor tomorrow Ukraine will be able to abandon nuclear energy, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
”Hard and effective nuclear security measures should be a key priority in the field of nuclear energy,” Poroshenko said during the events to the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.
”It is clear that neither today nor tomorrow, diversifying energy supplies and fighting for energy independence, Ukraine will not be able to abandon nuclear energy. But at the same time, we should think about new technologies and new alternatives, non-traditional energy sources, and improving energy efficiency,” he said.
According to Poroshenko, the issue of energy saving will be discussed at a meeting of the National Reform Council after the May holidays.
