Ukraine halves Russian gas imports in 2014

Ukraine has reduced Russian gas imports by almost half to 14.5 billion cubic meters in 2014. The Russian gas share in the overall imports balance fell to 36.2%.
The press service of Ukraine’s gas transit system operator JSC Ukrtransgaz reports.
“Ukraine imported 14.5 billion cubic meters from Russia for its needs in 2014 or 11.3 billion cubic meters less than last year. The Russian natural gas import share amounts to 36.2% of the total balance of natural gas imports which Ukraine’s gas transportation system received during 2014,” the statement reads.
According to the latest information reported by the Ukrtransgaz central control department the daily Russian gas supplies amount to 39.3 million cubic meters as of January 4, 2015. The natural gas imports figure for the current month stands at 162.3 million cubic meters.
Additionally, according to Ukrtransgaz, Ukraine imported 5.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Europe using reverse transportation in 2014.
