Ukraine calls on the UN to prevent Russia from chairing the Security Council

In April 2023, according to the UN schedule, Russia should take over the presidency of the Security Council. That’s why the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations opposes giving Russia the opportunity to take the presidency of the UN Security Council. He wrote about it on his Twitter.

“On the night of invasion Antonio Guterres [UN Secretary-General – ed.] called it “the saddest day in his tenure”; in fact the saddest in UN history until April 1, 2023, when, unless justice prevails, Russia assumes presidency of Security Council. Stop raping justice & quashing UN Charter! Accountability now!” Sergiy Kyslytsya tweeted.

At the same time, according to the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, the decision to remove Russia from the UN Security Council and at least prevent it from presiding over the Council does not belong to the competence of the UN Secretary-General.

“This is a question for the members of the Council. The Russian Federation must feel the consequences of aggression and crimes right now,” added Sergiy Kyslytsya.
