Ukraine breaks own grain export record

Ukrainian farmers exported 36.5 million tonnes of grain in the 2015-2016 marketing year (July 2015 through June 2016), the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry`s press service reported.
In particular, wheat exports amounted to 15.5 million tonnes, while maize exports totaled 16.4 million tonnes. Barley exports reached 4.3 million tonnes and shipments of other types of grain abroad made up 216,000 tonnes.
In addition, 324,000 tonnes of grain was loaded onto vessels.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine harvested 60.1 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops last year, 5.8% down on 2014, according to the State Statistics Service. The data excluded the occupied Crimea and part of the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine`s Agrarian Ministry projects that grain exports in the current marketing year will exceed 36 million tonnes. Experts estimate grain exports at 39.9 million tonnes. In the 2014-2015 marketing year, grain exports hit 34.8 million tonnes, which was the highest level in recent years.
