Ukraine boosts daily gas imports from Slovakia

As part of preparations for the upcoming heating season, Ukraine has boosted the import of natural gas from Slovakia by 22.7% to 22.1 million cubic meters of gas per 24 hours from July 23, against the previous 18 million cubic meters, according to Eustream, operator of Slovakia`s gas transport system.
Simultaneously, Ukraine, on July 23, imported 2.3 million cubic meters of gas from Hungary and 3.6 million cubic meters of gas from Poland.
Overall, gas imports on July 23 were 28 million cubic meters.
Ihor Prokopiv, CEO of Ukraine`s state holding Ukrtransgaz, earlier announced the country would boost gas purchases from its European partners by the end of July to 40 million cubic meters per day.
By the start of the heating season, Ukraine plans to accumulate about 14.5 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground storage facilities.
In the first half of June 2016, Ukraine imported about 0.5 million cubic meters of gas per day from Slovakia. On July 15, gas purchases grew considerably.
State-owned Naftogaz of Ukraine plans to buy gas using its own funds and a US$300 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
