Ukraine could beat own record in sunflower oil exports

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has estimated sunflower oil exports from Ukraine at the level of 5 million tonnes in 2017-2018 marketing year (MY, September 2017 – August 2018), according to the USDA`s May report published on the department`s website.

The production of sunflower oil may reach 5.63 million tonnes, the report said.

The USDA forecasts that sunflower seeds production in the next marketing season will reach 13.5 million tonnes and their exports – 250,000 tonnes, while sunflower meal output will amount to 5.37 million tonnes and exports – 4.4 million tonnes.

The department predicts that Ukrainian enterprises will export 5.1 million tonnes of sunflower oil in the current 2016-2017 MY, whereas production of this product in Ukraine will amount to 5.76 million tonnes.

The output of sunflower seeds in the current season will be at 13.75 million tonnes, while sunflower meal production will amount to 5.49 million tonnes. At the same time, Ukrainian agri-businesses c export 220,000 sunflower seeds and 4.8 million tonnes of sunflower meal, the USDA said.

Earlier, Ukraine is the world`s largest exporter of sunflower oil.

Ukroliyaprom association reported on last year`s record exports of sunflower oil totaling 4.8 million tonnes, which was 23% up against 2015. In monetary terms, exports were estimated at $4.8 billion compared to $4.2 billion a year earlier.

According to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service, the production of crude sunflower oil in Ukraine in 2016 grew by 20.2% from 2015, to 4.4 million tonnes. The production of margarines and edible fats in 2016 amounted to 184,000 tonnes, which was 13.6% down against 2015.
