“What happens in Ukraine matters to us all. That is why I am in Kyiv today. That is why the UK will continue to stand with our Ukrainian friends. I believe Ukraine can and will win this war”, Boris Johnson wrote on his Twitter.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that he is happy to welcome Boris Johnson, a great friend of Ukraine, on Ukraine’s Independence Day.
“Boris, thank you for the uncompromising support of our country from the first days of full-scale Russian aggression, for steadfastly defending the interests of Ukraine in the international arena! Our country is lucky to have such a friend!” – the head of state wrote on social networks.
The Prime Minister also received Ukraine’s highest award that can be bestowed on foreign nationals, ‘The Order of Liberty’, for the UK’s staunch support of Ukraine’s freedom.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during an unannounced visit to Kyiv, announced the allocation of a new package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 54 million pounds.
“Today’s package of support will give the brave and resilient Ukrainian Armed Forces another boost in capability, allowing them to continue to push back Russian forces and fight for their freedom.”
Military assistance includes unmanned surveillance systems and anti-tank ammunition. These include, in particular, 850 hand-held Black Hornet micro drones, which are specially designed for use in cities and villages and to detect approaching enemy forces.
