The US has already transferred 12 HIMARS systems and other MLRS to Ukraine to strengthen the long-range capabilities of the Ukrainian army. The latest package would bring the total number of HIMARS the United States has provided to Ukraine to 16.

The head of the defense department added that Ukraine would also receive additional ammunition for barrel artillery and missile systems.

The United States has provided $8 billion in security assistance since the beginning of the war, including $2.2 billion in the last month.

“(We) will keep finding innovative ways to sustain our long-term support for the brave men and women of the Ukrainian armed forces and we will tailor our assistance to ensure that Ukraine has the technology, the ammunition and the sheer firepower to defend itself,” Austin said.

Earlier, Ukraine has carried out successful strikes on 30 Russian logistics and ammunition hubs, using several multiple launch rocket systems.
