“A few months ago, we could not imagine that the war would return to Europe and we would face war because of Russia’s actions. So we need to give more support to Ukraine – military, financial, humanitarian, political and moral. Yes, and moral. We have to consider every word and every action, from the point of view of what is morally acceptable. When Ukraine asks to join the European Union, we must say strong and real – thank you.”

“Ukraine is already an honorary member of our Union because it is shedding blood to defend both its territory and our freedoms. Its place is with us. And if it is an EU candidate, it means it will be with us.”

She noted that in these circumstances, the supply of weapons to Ukraine is the responsibility of the European Union, as the very fact of Russian aggression against Ukraine is the result of obvious failures in European security policy.

“We must learn from our failures to better protect our citizens. Because Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a sign of where we have failed. If we had allowed Ukraine into NATO, it would not have been attacked now. If we did react more strongly to Russia’s aggression against Georgia, the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas, if we did not turn a blind eye to the fact that 21,000 people died in Aleppo under Russian bombs, then Russia would not be convinced that we would allow it to attack Ukraine.”
