The agenda of the government session included two normative acts – amendments to the Law “On Support of Civilians of Ukraine” and new rules of the Cabinet of Ministers on providing primary support to residents of Ukraine.

The amendments stipulate that the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees will be provided for up to 120 days, but not longer than December 31, 2022. Individuals and legal entities will also be able to receive compensation for the residence of Ukrainian civilians for up to 120 days, but not longer than December 31, 2022. In addition, the bill provides an opportunity for Ukrainian refugees who will not be able to find housing, to receive support in accommodation also after 120 days, but no longer than December 31, 2022.

It is estimated that these support measures will require 7.87 million euros from this year’s state budget and 964,900 euros next year. The lion’s share of the funds – about 5.76 million euros – of this amount is intended to provide housing for refugees.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, about 32,000 refugees have been registered in Latvia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, almost 26,000 of them have received a residence permit with the right to work.
