“The Federal Department of Economic Affairs and Energy (EAER), which is responsible for sanctions, has decided together with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) to adopt the EU sanctions concerning the delivery of Iranian drones to Russia,” noted the government of Switzerland.

At the same time, the Federal Department of Economic Affairs and Energy, together with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, decided not to accept the EU sanctions against Iran that were imposed in response to current protests. It is noted that the decision was made taking into account all internal and foreign policy interests of Switzerland.

“After weighing up all domestic and foreign policy interests, Switzerland has decided to only adopt the sanctions in connection with the drone deliveries,” concluded the Swiss government.

EU approved sanctions against Iran for supplying Russia with drones on October 20, 2022.
