The Swedish government noted on January 6, 2023, on Twitter, that Ukraine would be a key priority of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union.

“Ukraine is the key priority for the Swedish EU Presidency. Continued discussion today with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on our steadfast support to Ukraine and military assistance,” wrote the Swedish government.
In addition, on January 6, 2023, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson had an online meeting. According to its results, the Ukrainian leader said that the authorities and Ukrainians were counting on the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union under Sweden’s presidency of the EU Council.
The head of state also told the Prime Minister of Sweden about the situation at the front and the risks of its escalation, as well as about the key needs of Ukraine to strengthen the Defense Forces.
On January 1, 2023, Sweden began its presidency of the Council of the European Union.
