“Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and air strikes.”

This concerns, for example, such cities as Mariupol (Donetsk region), Izium (Kharkiv region), Lysychansk, Popasna, and Siverskodonetsk (Luhansk region), where there are reports of numerous civilian casualties.

According to the confirmed UN data, 2,417 men, 1,662 women, 195 boys, and 164 girls died, while the gender of 37 children and 1,746 adults has not yet been determined.

There are 1,960 men, 1,441 women, 277 boys and 199 girls, as well as 238 children, whose gender has not yet been determined among the 9,371 injured.

“OHCHR believes that the actual figures are considerably higher, as the receipt of information from some locations where intense hostilities have been going on has been delayed and many reports are still pending corroboration.”
