“No European energy system has experienced such a large-scale destruction attempt: more than 1,200 missiles and drones were launched by the Russians at key energy facilities. Unfortunately, more than 250 of them hit the target – 43% of the backbone networks were damaged. All thermal and hydroelectric power stations were shelled and suffered varying degrees of damage,” explained the press service of Ukrenergo.
According to the assessment of the World Bank and United Nations Development Programme, the scale of the destruction caused to the Ukrainian energy system is exceptional: only the primary needs for the restoration and protection of the Ukrenergo high-voltage network this year amount to almost 1 billion dollars.
Ukrenergo has already received almost 500 pieces of equipment from its European partners, and more equipment is being manufactured and going to Ukraine. Thanks to the combined efforts, as of today, 80% of the damaged backbone network has been brought back into operation, at least partially.
