“Prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office carry out procedural management in criminal proceedings based on the fact of mass destruction of objects of the animal world, which can cause an ecological disaster (Article 441 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – ecocide),” said the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, in March 2022, as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the massive shelling by Russian troops of populated areas of the Kherson region, one of the largest and most modern local poultry farms near Kherson was left without electricity.

Due to the occupation of the territories of the Kherson region by Russian troops, the enterprise did not have the opportunity to feed the birds and maintain a sanitary regime, as a result of which the vast majority of chickens died.

The fall of such a large number of birds could lead to bacterial contamination of a large area, so the farm was investigated on December 10, 2022.

During the inspection of the territory of the poultry farm, the burial place of the dead bird was found – a three-meter pit with an area of 1,880 square meters. Some of the dead birds are still in poultry houses.

The poultry farm had more than 4 million chickens before the full-scale Russian invasion began.
