Russian troops destroyed more than 70% of buildings in Izyum in Ukraine’s east

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights reported on September 16, 2022, that residents sincerely thank the return of the Ukrainian government to the liberated city of Izyum in the Kharkiv region (east of Ukraine). This city was under Russian occupation from April 2 to September 10, 2022.

More than 70% of the buildings were destroyed in Izyum, liberated from Russian soldiers.

“Russian military destroyed, visually, more than 70% of the buildings in Izyum, but life is returning there with the return of the Ukrainian flag. Women and men were interrogated about the Ukrainian army in the torture chamber, set up in the basement, next to private houses. Why people who completely controlled the city did this is unknown. It is only known that anyone could be subjected to Russian inhuman abuse.”

According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian and foreign journalists also came to Izyum so that the whole world could see the crimes that the Russian Federation continues to commit.

“If anyone thought that Russians stopped at Bucha [city in the Kyiv region where the Russian army committed a lot of crimes – ed.] because they were horrified by their cruelty, it is not so. The Russian political and military leadership rewards war criminals, sets them as an example, thereby spreading the practice of mass crimes against the civilian population. A lot of evidence has been collected and this work continues today. Everyone who tortured and killed will be punished,” concluded the ombudsman.
