Russian troops committed more than 9,000 war crimes in the Bucha district

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine informed on March 31, 2023, that Russian military committed more than 9,000 war crimes during the occupation of the Bucha district of the Kyiv region.

“Over 9,000 war crimes were committed in the Bucha district during the 33 days of occupation. Terrible numbers. More than 270 crimes per day. More than 1,400 civilians were killed. Many of them were tortured. 37 children were among the killed. Another 52 children were injured,” reported the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

During this year, the Prosecutor’s Office reported the suspicion of almost a hundred soldiers of the Russian Federation. Indictments against 35 have been sent to court. Among them is a colonel-general, commander of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation, who directly managed the occupation of the Sumy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions of Ukraine.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, two Russian servicemen were sentenced to 12 years in prison for illegal deprivation of liberty of civilians and looting.

“All these crimes are not an accident. They are part of the planned strategy of Russia aimed at destroying Ukraine as a state and Ukrainians as a nation. We will not stop until all the organizers and perpetrators of war crimes are brought to justice,” added the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
