Russian proxies fire mortars, antitank system on Ukraine in last day

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 79 times in the past 24 hours, using mortars and antitank missile systems, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.

”In particular, the militants fired 120mm and 82mm mortars four times in the direction of the town of Avdiyivka, three times towards the village of Zaitseve, twice towards areas near Butivka coal mine and one attack was in the vicinity of the town of Krasnohorivka and the villages of Pisky, Opytne, Berezove and Krymske each.

”The Russian-backed mercenaries fired mortars and 122mm cannon artillery systems on our fortified positions near the village of Taramchuk. The enemy also used an antitank missile system to attack the village of Lebedynske, while infantry fighting vehicles were shelling the villages of Mayorsk and Opytne,” the press center said.

The situation was also tense near the villages of Luhanske, Shyrokyne, Nevelske, Verkhniotoretske and the town of Maryinka. The illegal armed groups once again violated the ceasefire there, using small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.

”The Ukrainian military had to return fire 18 times in order to maintain their positions,” the ATO HQ said.
