The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 29 times from 00:00 to 18:00 local time on Monday, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) headquarters.
The number of the attacks has remained at the previous day`s level, the ATO HQ said.
”However, the intensity of the enemy`s fire from banned weapons has considerably declined compared to the previous period. In particular, the enemy used 120mm-caliber mortars once to shell the [Ukrainian] defenders of the town of Avdiyivka, while 82mm mortars were used to attack our units near the village of Pisky twice,” the source said.
Using grenade launchers, machine guns, small arms and sniper fire, the militants repeatedly attacked the Ukrainian positions near the villages of Stanytsia Luhanska, Nevelske, Opytne, Hnutove, Zaitseve, Butivka coalmine, and the town of Maryinka.
Militants engaged infantry fighting vehicles near the village of Novotroyitske to shell Ukrainian positions, having fired 35 rounds.
”To keep advantageous positions in the ATO zone, our soldiers continue reinforcing their strongholds, replenishing armaments, military hardware and equipment. They also take measures to counter the enemy`s reconnaissance and sabotage groups. In the most endangered directions, Ukrainian troops returned the fire several times,” the ATO HQ said.
